Our foundation is working with a a consortium of private and public stakeholders to establish a cancer center in Aba, Nigeria. When completed, this social enterprise will be the only cancer center in the Niger Delta region. Our aim is to make this a center for providing essential cancer services, including advocacy, screening, radiotherapy as well as education. MBCC will also be a hub for cancer research and policy in southern Nigeria. .
The need for accessible and affordable cancer treatment in the Niger Delta is huge. Most patients presently travel to distant states for radiotherapy or even outside of Nigeria. This presents lots of challenges, and often leads to poorer clinical outcomes as many people do not get the treatment they need.
Our foundation has provided grants to some indigent but deserving students from different parts of Abia State. Some of these grants have been used for tuition fees, payment of registration fees for National Exams (WAEC/NECO) and supporting people attending adult education. In 2016 we paid tuition fees for 15 students in primary and secondary schools in Obingwa LGA, and provided library materials for 2 secondary schools.
In order to benefit from our small education grant, interested persons would need to send a request to m.bashfoundation@gmail.com. The email request should describe the circumstance of need and provide more information about the potential recipient.
Led by Engr. Chimezie Eguzo, a member of our board of trustee, this project aimed to train senior secondary school students at Obong Christian High School on basic electronics. It featured practical lessons on how to build a simple rechargeable reading lamp. This project was delivered as a partnership involving Marjorie Bash Foundation, Obong Christian High School and Obong Christian High School Alumni Association. It is important to note that majority of our board of trustees graduated from Obong Christian High School.
Marjorie Bash Foundation is providing limited financial support to this community-driven adult education project. Students come from several villages around the Nlagu-axis of Abia State to attend classes most evenings. Led by the Minister of the Church of Christ, Nlagu, this project is also supported by members of the National Youth Service Corps in the area.
